Animation.

Description

For this project I was expected to make either an animation or a publication as the final outcome. My chosen subject was Ancient Egypt, more specifically my experience from standing in the Ancient Egyptian rooms of the British Museum. Seeing all the artifacts crammed into glass boxes making them over-crowded. It felt disrespectful for these highly regarded artifacts to be displayed in such a manner, it made me think if they were back in Egypt would they be displayed in the same way? These thoughts inspired an idea for a short animation, of an artifact that wished to be returned to its rightful place. Also gaining inspiration from the film Night at the Museum, the storyline is based around two characters, you as the night guard doing a shift in this museum and the sarcophagus, locked behind glass in one of the rooms. The sarcophagus rattles throughout, like it’s alive in some way as its lifeless face stares down at you, the only bit of light coming from your torch as you’re engulfed in the darkness. I wanted my animation to play with the light and dark; having lots of negative space. But also as my first animation animated in procreate, a media I am not well traversed in, I wanted to keep the animation simplistic and focusing more on getting the context to come across to the viewer.
